New laws mean that buyers are now responsible for negotiating or covering their agent’s commission if the seller won’t. This can feel unfamiliar, but Beth will walk you through all your options, including how to request seller contribution as part of your offer.
Beth’s take: “The challenge today is in not knowing what the seller is willing to pay until you make an offer. Bottom line, make sure you are willing to pay the entire buy (buyer) side commission for any home you are going to write on. If the seller decides to contribute, it is a gift to you. If the seller will not contribute, you will need to decide whether you wish to withdraw your offer or be prepared to pay the entire buy side commission.”
